Esempi in frase interrogativa indiretta sono chiedi a tua moglie se è già pronta = ask your wife if she is ready yet, e mi domando se sono già arrivati = I wonder if they are there yet. I already spoke to him; hai già mangiato? = did you eat yet? (ma l'uso britannico standard prevede ancora "I've already spoken to him" e "have you eaten yet?")* * *già/dʒa/Ci sono tre modi principali per tradurre già in inglese: already, yet e before. = 10 o'clock already, we're late!; è inutile continuare, ha già vinto lui = there's no point in going on, he has already won; ne conoscevo già il significato = I already knew its meaning. 10 -much, many o a lot of?-
Nota d'uso“A lot of” e “lots of” sono le espressioni più comunemente usate per esprimere il concetto di molto nelle frasi affermative: C'è molto latte in frigo, there's a lot of milk in the fridge (non there's much milk in the fridge). “Much” viene normalmente usato nelle frasi negative e interrogative: Non c'è molto latte in frigo, there isn't much milk in the fridge; Hai molti bagagli?, have you got much baggage? Al plurale, nel caso di sostantivi numerabili, molti/e corrisponde nell'inglese parlato a “a lot of” (o “lots of”) nelle frasi affermative: Ci sono molte uova in frigo, there are lots of eggs in the fridge. Tuttavia, è possibile utilizzare anche l'aggettivo “many”, specialmente in contesti più formali: Molti italiani amano il mare, many Italians love the seaside. “Many” viene essere usato anche nelle frasi interrogative e negative: Non ha molti amici, he hasn't got many friends; Hai invitato molte ragazze?, have you invited many girls? -
11 -never o ever?-
Nota d'usoGli avverbi never e ever possono essere tradotti entrambi con “mai”: never esprime una negazione, mentre ever implica una possibilità. In generale, never viene usato nelle frasi affermative ed ever nelle frasi interrogative. Inoltre, è possibile utilizzare never nelle frasi interrogative, quando si vuole esprimere sorpresa: Have you never been to Rome?, non sei mai stato a Roma? (in questo caso, si può anche usare ever con il verbo alla forma negativa: Haven't you ever been to Rome?). -

4) (con comparativi) no, not6) (con che restrittivo)non è che un graffio — it's only a scratch, it's nothing but a scratch
••non hai che da dirlo — just tell me o say so
